For well over a century, St. Bethlehem United Methodist Church has been a place of worship, service, and connection in the Clarksville community. What began with a dedicated group of students from the former Southwestern Presbyterian University has grown into a congregation that remains rooted in those same commitments. On March 3, 1946, shortly after the morning worship service ended, the church building caught fire. Only a few furnishings and the original membership book were saved. Yet by three o’clock that afternoon, the congregation was already making plans to rebuild St. Bethlehem.
Throughout our history, St. Bethlehem UMC has remained committed to serving our neighbors. Today, we continue that tradition through Ann’s Closet, our food pantry that serves the community on the first and third Wednesdays of each month; our FUEL ministry, which provides bags of food for students at the St. Bethlehem Early Learning Center; and by providing a meeting place for Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and weekly Narcotics Anonymous gatherings. Our church also serves as a polling location for local, state, and national elections.
We are excited about what God has in store for St. Bethlehem and the community we serve. As we listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we continue seeking new ways to share the love, grace, and welcoming hospitality of Jesus Christ.
